Crate is a multi tenanted food hall, social space and community space at the 17&Central shopping centre in Walthamstow. Covering 1,400sqm sqm of space on the upper floor of the shopping centre. Through a combination of space planning, interior design and branding, we worked with the operator, Crate and the landlord, Capital & Regional to transform the space into a colourful, bustling community hub formed around F&B.

Crate comprises 6 street food units managed by local operators and a cafe. We designed the units to allow the tenants to operate efficiently while allowing maximum flexibility for the landlord to manage tenant transitions.

The main focal point is High Street Social which combines a bar and flexible event space with a range of functions to suit the needs of the community in different ways from live music and comedy to mother and baby yoga. When the weather permits, guests can make use of the outside terrace.

The space has been designed to allow the High Street Social and the street food zone to feel distinct while allowing them to operate together in a coherent way.

Crate at 17&Central has become a real focal point for the local community and help revitalise the shopping centre.
